How Electricity Generation Works in solar power?
help me
Solar power (photovoltaic or “PV”) cells are silicon wafers that are ‘doped’ so that when sunlight hits them, electrons are knocked loose to create electrical current. They usually provide very little voltage (1.5 to 2.5 volts), but are connected in series to step the voltage up to 24V.
The array of cells is usually connected to an inverter, which changes the 24V direct current (DC) into 120V alternating current (AC) that we are used to in the homes.
The home is then either also tied to the grid in a “grid tie” system, so that power is available at night or when it’s cloudy. Off-grid systems uses charging systems and batteries to store the power for use at night or during cloudy periods. However, adding batteries and chargers vastly increases the cost of the system (most due to maintaining and replacing the batteries).

Solar Electric Power Generation - Photovoltaic Energy Systems
$132.48 Solar electricity is a viable, environmentally sustainable alternative to the world’s energy supplies. In support, Dr. Krauter thoroughly examines the various technical parameters of photovoltaic systems. Study of performance and yield (including optical, thermal, and electrical parameters and interfaces) are analyzed. The net energy balance of photovoltaic systems – from production, operation and maintenance, to recycling – is explored. Professor Krauter demonstrates how the importance of accurate yield calculations, optimal system performance, and new prototypes aid in cost reductions. The potential of solar electric power generation as a means to significantly reduce CO2 emissions is also detailed. In addition, various locations for the production and installation of photovoltaic power plants are considered – with surprising results. Examples, tables and figures are included. |

Power Generation Technologies
$66.48 This book makes intelligible the wide range of electricity generating technologies available today, as well as some closely allied technologies such as energy storage. The book opens by setting the many power generation technologies in the context of global energy consumption, the development of the electricity generation industry and the economics involved in this sector. A series of chapters are each devoted to assessing the environmental and economic impact of a single technology, including conventional technologies, nuclear and renewable (such as solar, wind and hydropower). The technologies are presented in an easily digestible form.Different power generation technologies have different greenhouse gas emissions and the link between greenhouse gases and global warming is a highly topical environmental and political issue. With developed nations worldwide looking to reduce their emissions of carbon dioxide, it is becoming increasingly important to explore the effectiveness of a mix of energy generation technologies.Power Generation Technologies gives a clear, unbiased review and comparison of the different types of power generation technologies available. In the light of the Kyoto protocol and OSPAR updates, Power Generation Technologies will provide an invaluable reference text for power generation planners, facility managers, consultants, policy makers and economists, as well as students and lecturers of related Engineering courses.· Provides a unique comparison of a wide range of power generation technologies - conventional, nuclear and renewable· Describes the workings and environmental impact of each technology· Evaluates the economic viability of each different power generation system |
